Bivariate Distributions via a Pareto Conditional Distribution and a Regression Function

Uniqueness of specification of a bivariate distribution by a Pareto conditional and a consistent regression function is investigated. New characterizations of the Mardia bivariate Pareto distribution and the bivariate Pareto conditionals distribution are obtained.

On A Bivariate Pareto Model

Lindley-Singpurwalla (1986)’s bivariate Pareto distribution is one of the most popular bivariate Pareto distribution. Sankaran and Nair (1993) proposed a new bivariate Pareto distribution which also has Pareto marginals and it contains LindleySingpurwalla’s bivariate Pareto model as a special case. It has several other interesting properties also. In this paper we re-visit Sankaran and Nair’s b...

Estimation of System Reliability under Bivariate Pareto Distribution

In this paper, we estimate the reliability of a parallel system with two components. We assume that the strengths of these components follow bivariate pareto (BVP) distribution proposed by Veenus and Nair(1994). These two components are subjected to either two independent stresses or common stress which are ( is ) independent of strengths of two components. We assume that the distribution of st...

Bivariate Extremes and Estimation of Location

A problem of estimating the location of a source of scattered radiation is considered. The role of extremes in estimation problems for truncated distributions is discussed from the Bayesian point of view. The emphasis is made on the bivariate case of spherically symmetric distributions. The cases of truncated normal, uniform, and Cauchy distributions are considered. Such location estimators as ...
